Corvette in China

This was spotted outside of the Chinese National Department for Automobile Quilty (the people that award sales licenses to car manufacturers). Generally speaking, if a car is spotted outside this building, then chances are it plans to go on sale in China.

Is GM trying to raise Chevrolet from being a bargain bin GM-Daewoo rebranding excercise into a premium brand? We hope so!

Diesel Fuel Price Reaches Record High

Big rig trucks are responsible for most of the items we use every day. That industry took a blow Sunday when diesel fuel rose to a new record high, and the ripple effect could mean higher prices for all consumer items.

The national diesel price hit $4.81 Sunday. And with prices that high, truck drivers are feeling the pinch, and even reconsidering some of their deliveries.

Truck drivers receive a fuel surcharge, a percentage of their delivery that is paid to them for gas expenses, which can soften the blow, but not completely.

All truck drivers seem to be in the middle of very tough times now. Since most consumer items are delivered by trucks, all americans could soon be feeling the impact.

BMW 118d road test

WISDOM has it that you should never look back, not just to avoid walking into a lamp post but because however shiny and nostalgic it is, return to the past is impossible.

In 1985 Britain was seen as a land of self employment opportunity. After the playschool teaching methods of the 70s, few people could actually spell it but the word on everyone’s lips was entrepreneurial.

Trotters Independent Trading was not comedy concept, it was a lifestyle aspiration.

And except for a few people unhealthily addicted to the smell of mechanics’ overalls new found wealth was finally sentencing domestic cars to Tebbit land. On your bikes, lads.

All those disciples of Maggie who described their occupation as ‘I have my own business’ wanted to a nice, shiny Beemer outside the lockup. And Mrs Lockup expected a 3-Series up her fake block paving, even though it had no radio and windows were wound down by hand, sometimes breaking a nail.

Sadly, however, we all put on weight with age. In1985 I weighed 11st 10lb naked. Now there is a local by-law preventing me from actually being naked.

The 3-Series grew, too. It was slowly weighed down with technological jewellery, becoming the fully equipped size 16 middle-aged lady who lunches it is today.

The truth was that Paul Young may have been prepared to live in the love of the common people but BMW wasn’t.

Every time an ABC-1 focus group asked for something new they got it until one day, fighting the flab with Wogan, the 3-Series climbed on the scales and the scales surrendered. To paraphrase the celebrated Mr George Orwell; ‘…they looked from 5-Series to 3-Series and back to 5-Series and could not tell them apart.’

Leaving a gap in the range for something cheekily smaller. A bit on the side. The 1-Series.

If the 3-Series was aspirationally right for the days of Thatcherite boom the 118d fits the bill during Brownwellian bust.

And very welcome it has been. Common in fact, so much so, BMW is reported to be restricting the number for sale in the UK. And banning Paul Young records from the company canteen.

The reasons for this popularity are clear. The 118 offers strong engineering credentials and economy. With performance.

No seriously, this is like opening a toilet paper factory a week before an outbreak of dysentery. You can’t believe your luck.

Employing something called Efficient Dynamics, a package that includes battery charging through braking, auto stop-start, shutting the car down at traffic lights, radiator flaps so the engine heats up quicker and an optimum gear shift indicator, the 118d thumbs its nose at eco-communists and hippies. Even the steering uses no power in the straight ahead position, contributing to remarkably solid handling.

All this, along with the 1,995cc turbodiesel unit and a six-speed gearbox, offers the possibility of 60mpg. In fact not long ago the 118d’s figures would have a work of Jeffrey Archer fiction; 143bhp, 130mph top speed, 8.8 seconds to 60mph and Co2 at 123gm/k.

On the road there are few smoother diesels in this engine size.

There is a full inventory of security and safety equipment but luxury goods only run to electric windows and mirrors, CD-radio, and spit seats. Climate control will cost an extra £1,065 and sat-nav £1,500. Even alloys are extra at £425.

No matter what short comings the 118d has, rear wheel drive may be predictable but it makes the back seats a squeeze and standard equipment at £18,225 is not great, it rekindles the days of flushed neuvo riche excitement embodied in the BMW badge without having to sell your carpet shop to enjoy it.

And if things carry on as they are, there is simply no going back from that.

The owner of four vintage cars destroyed in an arson attack in County Fermanagh on Saturday night has said 20 years of work have gone up in smoke.

George Ogle and his wife were away on holiday when a van and a car were set on fire at the back of their property on the Baragh Road near Ballinamallard.

The blaze spread, causing substantial damage to a nearby garage where the vintage cars were parked.

The damage is estimated at tens of thousands of pounds.

Two Austin 16s - from 1929 and 1930 - were destroyed as well as a newly restored MG Roadster and a Mini van.

George Ogle said he could not understand why he was targeted.

“I’ve been at this for the last 20 or 30 years, basically restoring cars just as a hobby, for enjoyment,” he said.

“You go on holiday, the place is alarmed, locked up, secure, you come back and this is what you find. It’s totally ridiculous.”

Custom Truck Wheels

Look around and you will see an increase in custom wheels used on trucks today. Less than 20 years ago trucks were just cargo hauling vehicles. In the early 1900s trucks were used primarily for local wholesale and retail deliveries. Today when we talk about trucks we are talking about light trucks. Light trucks include pickup trucks, minivans and full-size vans, and sport utility vehicles. Twenty five percent or more of all new vehicles sold are light trucks.

There is an huge amount of accessories that allow pickup truck owners to convert their weekday work horse to comfortable, efficient and enjoyable transportation. Accessories like lowering kits, lift kits, tonneau covers and custom wheels. Most of these accessories don’t have to be practical, people just want to modify a truck to suit their life styles.

Custom Truck Wheels are one of the best accessories you can buy when it comes to improving your ride. It’s important to make the right choice for your light truck custom wheel needs. Weather you own a regular cab, extended cab, 4X4 or 2X4 Chevy, Ford or Dodge truck, custom wheels can have a big impact on performance.

Shop on line and get the best price. Save even more on wheel and tire packages and have them shipped to your front door ready to install. On line merchants always know which custom rims will fit best. Find truck rims ranging from 15 inches to 26 inches. If you have a 4X4 they make them even bigger. Look for wheels on line marked RWD for rear wheel drive.

If you have been thinking of restyling your truck lately, start with custom truck wheels. Replacing your wheels will make your truck look sportier while enhancing handling and ride quality when matched up with a new set of tires. We recommend Alcoa wheels, American Racing and Weld wheels for that eye catching look. These manufactures have been stealing the hearts of truck lovers everywhere for years.

Before Buying a Used RV

Driving along the country roads, listening to good music with some of your friends, this is just how you would like to spend the vacation, isn’t it? Believe it or not, when I was young I always wondered how it would be to live on a houseboat that would swim across the seas and oceans of the world and I would live in it as if it were my home. Then I read “Frankenstein” and was a little disillusioned. However if not rivers, at least it can be land escapades. So there is something for people like us who like to be on wheels, RV or Recreational Vehicles which is especially designed for leisure time activities like camping, vacations or if you want you can live in it full time as well.

These come in various shapes and sizes depending on which vehicle the RV is based upon, it can be the size of a luxury bus or a can be the size of a truck, rather built upon a truck chassis. There are some, which are van based, or which have a tent camper so that you can stop your vehicle anywhere and relax for a while. RV is also known as Caravan. There are advantages as well quite a few disadvantages of an RV. If you have an RV you can save yourself from the trouble of booking motels and spending money on that. You can cook your own food and sleep on your own bed but these can also turn out to be disadvantages, as you might not like to do all these things yourself. You might just want a maid whom you unfortunately cant get in an RV but then still getting your space is more fun than anything else. You can drive your home to the place that you wish to go…Awesome, isn’t it??? But would you like to spend a fortune in buying an RV, would you? Obviously not, when you can buy a used one, right? Yes and here we are trying to give you a few tips so that you can a bag a better deal when buying a used RV. If you can buy it right, there can be nothing better than a used RV since its value depreciates as soon as the owner takes it home form the dealership. There have been instances where the owner had to sell his vehicle for peanuts whereas the person, who bought it, sold it off after a year of his buying and sold it for the same price as he bought it. So that’s the trick and here are a few tips to master the trick.

Guidelines to follow when buying  used RV
Do not be deceived by the look of the vehicle since it might have graver problems than can be perceived by the look of it. The vehicle might have hidden problems like a leakage in the roof and rusty walls, which you might not be able to notice.
Assess your requirement and understand what kind of an RV you actually want. It can be anything ranging from truck campers, motor homes to travel trailers and fifth wheels. There are various options to choose from and it is really very necessary for you to decide first as to what you want.It also matters where exactly you want to go with your vehicle and where exactly do you want to park it and whether or not you need to tow anything because if you need to, then the normal RVs are not for you, you will have to opt for Travel Trailers. When buying an RV look for individuals, who want to sell it because that way you get a better deal otherwise agents can convince you into buying anything.Do buy an RV only when you have traveled at least once in it because there are people who buy it in a spur of a moment and realize later that it is not what they like or want.
When buying an RV do not buy it with a plan that does not require you to make a down payment.Read the Beginner’s guide and also take feedback from people who actually have it so that you get to know the real facts.
